Brent Clark is a 33-year-old recovering alcoholic and drug addict. As a young adult, he had the world going for him; but with a few poor life choices, he began a downward spiral which would take 7 years to recover from. He went from being a member of the U.S. Military, to a proud police officer, to a convicted felon sitting behind bars. In Sober for Life, a Christian Addiction Recovery Podcast, Brent speaks on how even the smallest choices can lead to the biggest of outcomes; taking him from the man he was, to discovering the man he wanted to be, and creating the man that he is. Only after hitting a new rock bottom and giving his struggles over to God, was he able to start climbing back up, one step and one prayer at a time.

In this episode of Sober for Life, Brent speaks on how important it can be to clean up our lives. Comparing the process to the annual event of spring cleaning, we learn how to "de-clutter" our lives and clear out temptation and the triggers which could cause us to relapse.

First of all, I want to thank my amazing wife for the work she put in to helping design our new logo for the show.

Second, I want to thank all of our listeners and fans for all of the support as we now take a new approach to the show, Sober for Life - A Christian Addiction Recovery Podcast. I owe my recovery to God and as such feel He deserves the recognition in everything that I've learned and how much I've grown.

In episode #11, Brent discusses he difficulties with hitting rock bottom, as well as why it can be important for us to reach that place. Using first hand examples from the Bible, Brent explains why hitting rock bottom can be just was God wants for us, and where we need to go from there.

As we venture down the road of recovery, there are many obstacles that may arise. If we are not careful about the people we surround ourselves with, the activities we participate in, and the situations we place ourselves in, the chances of a relapse increase. However, if we can learn what the signs of relapse are, and learn to recognize them, then we can develop a game plan and avoid going back down the road of addiction.

Just as important as going through the 12 step program is understanding the 12 steps. In order to get the most out of what the 12 steps have to offer, we have to understand what they are, why they are there, and what they mean, as well as how we can complete them. In the next three weeks, Brent will be going into each of the 12 steps one by one to give a better understanding on this key part of the recovery process.

If you were asked to close your eyes and think of the word addict, what image would come to mind? Would you suddenly see the homeless man with the greasy beard curled up next to the dumpster? Would you see the "gangster" looking kid with the tattoos arms who you are certain is in the middle of a drug deal? The truth is, the world has placed several stereotypes on those affected with addiction and alcoholism. In this episode, Brent speaks on the different ways that others view addicts and speaks on what we can do to change this trend.

Overcoming a drinking problem can be the most difficult thing a person will do in their lives. The first step to overcoming your addiction, however, is to admit that you have a problem. Unfortunately, addiction is a disease that always try and tell you that you are just fine. So how can we know when our drinking habits have gotten to a dangerous point? In this episode of Sober for Life, Brent discusses the signs we should look for which may indicate that you have a drinking problem.

One of the great debates out in the world right now concerning addiction is that of the addictive personality. Is everything that we do and everything that results from it purely by our own choice? Or is there actually a disorder that causes one individual to take addiction further than another. Join Brent in this episode of Sober for Life where he speaks about the addictive personality.

Today's reading was from Maia Szalavitz, in her book, Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction
